Classic Turkey and Swiss Deli Sandwhich
I completely rediscovered my love of sandwiches at our local neighbourhood deli. This ma and pa style grocer and deli has an awesome sandwich counter, where they make simple yet beautifully constructed sandwiches! I also discovered that olives make the besttt condiment.
Here’s a moderately inaccurate AI image, because my kitchen and dishes are simply not worthy of food photography!
INGREDIENTS (per sandwich)
1 unit of your favourite soft sandwich bread / roll (I love a cheese bun with this one!)
75-100g turkey / chicken cold cut of choice (shaved)
1 slice swiss cheese
head lettuce (washed and dried)
tomato slices (thinly sliced and patted dry)
cucumber slices (long rather than round)
white onion (thinly sliced rounds)
alfalfa sprouts (washed and dried)
pickled jalapenos
a handful of green olives (small diced)
mayonnaise
NOTE: All vegetables must be THINLY sliced (e.g. using a mandolin) so that everything fits on the sandwich!
INSTRUCTIONS
Set out your bread or bun. If using a bun / roll, cut it in half and lightly hollow it out to reduce carbs and create more space for your filling!
Small dice a handful of green olives and mix them into a spoonful or two of mayo. Olives are such a delicious addition!
Generously spread your olive aioli onto both sides of your sandwich.
On the bottom half:
Sprinkle on some white onion and pickled jalapenos.
Add the slice of swiss cheese.
Layer on the tomato and alfalfa sprouts.
Pile on the shaved turkey.
Add a layer of crispy head lettuce.
Top with the upper half of your bread. Cut in half and enjoy!

This basic, deli-style sandwich is a classic favourite. Loaded with meat, cheese, vegetables, and an amazing olive aioli, this delicious sandwich is a favourite weekend lunch!
